The Story of the League:
The Bristol and District Commercial House League was born on 16th June 1927, when a meeting was held at Wills’s Evening Club, attended by representatives of the following firms:
Douglas Motors - Lysaghts - L.M. & S. Railway - G.W.R. W.D.& H.O.Wills - Bristol Pottery - British Gas Company Brecknell, Munro & Rogers.
The object of the meeting was to promote the formation of leagues of indoor games amongst employees of Bristol Firms. A further meeting was held on 18th August 1927, at which it was agreed that the leagues be formed. The following officers were appointed:-
Chairman: W.G. Stone (Douglas) Hon.Sec & Treasurer: J.S.Hill (Wills) Hon Match Secretary: C.F. Coombe (Mardons) Committe: One member from each club Auditors: C.F.Coombe and L.W.Crockett
The League commenced its first season with 10 Billiards, 13 Skittles and 8 Whist teams.
